Formally Gipsy Hill Hardware
When we started our business back in May 2021, we named it after the area of South London that we live in - simple yes?! Fast forward 3 years and we've been fortunate enough to a gain a large social media following and customers from all over the world. With this growth, we have gained a larger perspective and have recognised that the term 'Gipsy' or 'Gypsy' can have negative connotations. The last thing we want to do is cause any type of bad feelings (especially when our business is meant to do the exact opposite) so we took the decision to change our name.
We also have plans in the longer term to work into other product areas, as well as hardware. We felt we needed a name that would encompass the DNA of the brand and everything we wanted to become in the future.
Renaming a business is hard. We have 3 children and comparatively, naming them was far easier! After a lot of thought, Hera Ray was born.
We chose the word Hera after the Greek goddess of women, home and family. Our design ethos has always been to add a touch of femininity into the hardware market so Hera seemed to be a good representative of that aim.
Ray comes from 'Ray of Sunshine', which is exactly what we hope our joyful pieces bring to you everyday.
We always want our products and our craftsmanship to take the spot light, rather than the name, the brand or myself. That said, customers have expressed an interest in knowing the reasons behind the name change and the meaning behind Hera Ray. Hopefully this answers both.
Everything else remains the same. We will continue to bring joy, whimsy and fun to everything we do. Thank you for all your support. We truly believe we have the best customers in the world.
